Tsubokiri Matcha is a seasonal edition matcha.
“Tsubokiri” is a traditional event in tea ceremony held in October or November. Every year after high-grade tea leaves are harvested in May, tea makers will store part of tea leaves for about 6 months. Traditionally tea leaves are sealed in a jar in earlier times. Currently, they are stored in a frigerated environment by using a modern way.
The name “tsubokiri” refers to the opening/cutting of the tea jar which takes place in a ceremony called “kuchikiri chaji”, the “tea ceremony to open the tea jar”. The taste of Tsubokiri is rounder and mellow, full of rich texture. An excellent Autumn tea you must try.
Origin: Uji, Kyoto
